A verse-by-verse study of Hebrews

hebrews“And Now for Something Completely Different: A Verse-by-Verse Study of the Book of Hebrews” is the title of a new commentary by Matthew Martin.  I’m not sure the title does the book justice, but the author has called this a different kind of commentary because he takes the Book of Hebrews and expounds upon it verse-by-verse without over reliance on other Bible verses or commentary from theologians.  He believes that to truly understand the purpose of Hebrews, we must break it down so that we can see that the “way of Christ is the only one worth living and dying for”.

Martin offers historical and biblical background in his commentary that is helpful.  Most of the book is Martin’s own notes from his personal study.  It is a good resource and can be helpful; however, he does point out in the introduction that his book was written for those who wish to read someone else’s opinions.  If you are looking for a “different” kind of commentary to help you formulate your own study, this is a good place to start especially if you are looking for something not too deep but still want a serious study.
