‘A Pius Man’ a holy thriller by Declan Finn

pius manDeclan Finn’s “A Pius Man” combines a secret service agent, the head of Vatican security, an African pope, an Israeli intelligence agent, and a dead al-Qaeda operative  with Nazi history.  Pope Pius XIII’s mission was to make “Hitler’s Pope” a saint, a mission that led to controversy and murder.  The action in “A Pius Man” takes off when a body falls out of a hotel room window and onto a car driven by the head of Vatican security, but starts and stops as the author takes detours into introductions and explanations.  It picks up at the end as the plot comes together and discoveries are made.

This book takes time to read particularly if you visit the blogs noted at the end of the chapters for more information.  A novel approach by the author but it breaks up the action and I’m not sure how effective this is.  In order to understand where the author is coming from, it is important to read the foreword to understand the driving force of the book and the author’s reasons for writing it.
