Understanding Biblical Womanhood

Gospel woman Wendy Alsup offers a deeper understanding of what it means for women to be daughters of God in her book, “The Gospel Centered Woman”.   Women have been taught the example of perfect womanhood through the eyes of the Proverbs 31 Woman and the value of love, respect and submission, but what does it really mean to conformed to the image of Christ as a woman?

By examining our womanhood through the gospels, Alsup is able to bring about a deeper understanding of what it means to be a godly woman.  Women are not just defined as wives, mothers and daughters.  We were created for a purpose beyond our earthly roles.  How refreshing that my spiritual growth does not hinge on what kind of wife and mother I am although these are important.  I appreciated Alsup’s approach and especially how she kept her words lined up with Scripture and quoted it often.
