The Buildmore Store needs your help

Are you aware that many people in Alabama, including the county you live in, cannot afford to make basic repairs to their houses?  Did you know that 15.9% of Alabamians live below the poverty level?

Alabama Rural Ministry (ARM) provides home repair assistance to underserved families including repairs to roofing, flooring, walls and porches, building handicap accessible features and more.  Most families are elderly, have a disability and are on a fixed income.  The families partner alongside work teams as they are able.  ARM also sponsors children’s day camps.   The primary function of ARM is as a mission camp by hosting work teams from Alabama and various states across the country.  Camps are held mainly during the summer while local community volunteer teams work year round in the Macon/Lee county areas.

The Buildmore Store is part of a new venture for ARM and is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2010.  Operating as a thrift store, The Buildmore Store will support the mission of ARM financially and provide low cost building materials and appliances to low income households.  The target market will be landlords, homeowners and low-income households.  It will be the only construction and building materials thrift store in the Auburn-Opelika community and will sell mainly used and new building materials such as flooring, roofing materials, tiles, ceramic, insulation material, paneling, doors, windows, frames, kitchen cabinets and home appliances.  Priced below the market price to meet customer needs, these items will be received from local donors who are remodeling their homes and wish to donate their used goods or extra material that they may wish to donate rather than return to the stores.  Items donated will be tax-deductible.

If you would like to be a part of ARM’s new endeavor, would you consider making a monetary donation?  You can be a Buildmore Planner for a donation of $25, a Buildmore Builder for $100, a Buildmore Contractor for $500 or a Buildmore Supporter for $1,000.  You can make a donation by sending a check to Alabama Rural Ministry, c/o The Buildmore Store, P.O. Box 2890, Auburn, AL 36831.  Your donation will be tax-deductible.  If you would like to donate used construction materials and/or appliances, please contact ARM at 334-501-4276.
